Clinton Vance
Clinton Vance
  • Clinton Vance is a Black/Filipino straight cisgender male actor who is the English voice for Íñigo in Caras Vemos (aka, Switched Up), a Mexican comedy feature film streaming on Netflix. He also voices Charlie in the indie animated series Paradise Lost on YouTube and has recorded additional voices for the anime Show by Rock!! Stars!! streaming on Crunchyroll. He contributed voiceover to the HitRECord series Create Together, which won the 2020 Emmy Award for Outstanding Innovation in Interactive Programming. He has been acting for more than ten years, in theater productions and in on-camera and voiceover projects. For training, he attended the Arizona Actors Academy, studying under Brandy Hotchner for Lee Strasberg Method Acting and Shakespeare, Gabe Fazio for master scene work and specialized individual training, Jacque Arend for Improv and Rachel Grimes and Rosy Ferguson for Voice & Movement. Additionally, he learned stage combat from Randy Messersmith and on-camera stunts and fight choreography from Richard Ryan and Javier Avalos. He also received VO training from industry professionals such as Tasia Valenza, Cassandra Lee Morris, Dave Bisson, Courtenay Taylor, Jason Lord, Karen Strassman, Tre Mosley, June Yoon, Jonna-Lynn Alsono and Anthony Rodriguez.

With his medium-low, warm, friendly and easy-going mixed voice, he specializes in introverted, unassuming teen/young adult protagonists who hide their edge and coolness behind quiet politeness, down-to-earth best friends/brothers, sassy rebels who speak in monotone with deadpan delivery, quirky trickster villains and stressed out but steadfast warriors and public servers. The fact that he is a lifelong fan of gaming, animation and all things sci-fi also makes him adept at playing shy or boisterous nerdy characters. Clinton is also a member and actor for the sketch comedy/filmmaking group called The Stuffmakers and has assisted with directing and writing. He sings as well, as a tenor.

This year, Clinton is continuing his role as Charlie in Paradise Lost, and as SuperAwesome for Black Lion & Cubs, a Black-owned indie family-friendly anime and comic production company. He recently began collaborating with Creative Gang LLC, which is the first anime studio in Sacramento, CA. He has live shows with The Stuffmakers every fourth Friday of every month, and they plan to make more short films and submit them to film competitions and festivals.

Clinton acts because it’s a wonderful way—his favorite way—to use his perspective, creativity and imagination to reconfigure, channel and honor aspects of himself and his own lived experiences. The acting process gives him life and he delights in giving life to the characters he plays and helping directors, writers, creators, tell the stories they want to tell. He believes in the words of his acting coach, Brandy Hotchner: “art is the search, not final form”, meaning he is constantly searching for ways to hone his skills as an actor. It also means he is open and very direct-able—he listens, takes the note and makes the adjustment. Through his acting, his aim is always to communicate and express truth, truth that he hopes will move the audience and provoke thought, discussion, and perhaps even inspire people to take action, or act or be creative themselves.
